Media Stereotype

Stereotype!! What is meaning by stereotype? It is a new word for me actually because when we watch movie or any media source, definitely we won't care about why the movie is published or it's related to a specific matter. Therefore there will be less understanding about the reason why a media is created or published. So the word 'stereotype' is created to let the audience know what is the media is all about.

Stereotype is also known as 'ethnic stereotype' is a generalized representation of an ethnic group, composed of what are thought to be typical characteristics of members of the group. Ethnic stereotypes are commonly portrayed in ethnic jokes. Now almost all media production are more focus on stereotypes between The United States of America and The Arabs. This is because the conflict between this two country has create a major effect throughout the whole world. For example, if a question is ask from anyone in the world about combination of the US marines and terriost, he/she will definitely related it with wars and cruelty.

Stereotypes of Arabs and Muslims have been presented in various forms by the mass media in Western and American culture. The representations are manifested in a society's media, literature and other creative expressions. These representations have been historically and repercussions for Arab Americans and Muslims in daily interactions and in current events.

In the movie 'Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People', i feel that the director's intention to film this movie is to show an television image of the Arab that is omnipresent and it becomes a part of American folklore. He also tells that Arabs do have consistently appeared in American popular culture as billionaires, bombers, and bell dancers.
'Arab Muslims are fanatics who believe in a different god, who don't value human life as much as we do, they are intent on destroying us (the west) with their oil or with their terrorism; the men seek to abduct and brutally seduce our women; they are without family and reside in a primitive place (the desert) and behave like primitive beings. The women are subservient — resembling black crows — or we see them portrayed as mute, somewhat exotic harem maidens'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereotypes_of_Arabs_and_Muslims

Besides that. there is another media stereotypes that is related to Arab and Muslim citizens that is '100 Years of Anti-Arab and Anti-Muslim stereotyping' by Mazin B. Qumsiyeh, the director of media relations for the American Arab Anti-Discrimation Committee. In that movie. Arabs in TV and movies are classified as either bombers, belly dancers or billionaires. It refers them as terrorist, women as sex objects, or as wealthy oilmen. it's been mentioned also that even cartoons is being insulting to Arabs and muslims and how people who live in the US and interact with its community. Then it explains that these stereotypes don't only harm the psychological part but also helps feed into actions that are physically harmful by dehumanizing a group first before attacking it.

In conclusion, all stereotypes about Arabs and Muslim are commonly done by the US. Therefore, they will treat Arabs and muslims as terrorist and will bring trouble to them.

Bloggers is bloggers~~~~~

Bloggers are called Bloggers and not Journalists. If they were journalists then they'd just be journalists who are, incidentally, paid for their work in the field and office. If you would rather have someone telling you what's going on then be prepared to believe whatever you're told. Bloggers are mostly opinion/editorial based and offer a different point of view on a subject. There is another option and you pointed it out yourself...you'd know them when you saw them. That further simplifies the answer to your question and the addition to your action plan...don't read them.Even in a country where most citizens probably have no idea what a blog is, it's not just an academic debate. Bloggers, some observers say, are becoming major players in everything from national politics to consumer trends.
A lot of people have been trying to figure out the difference between bloggers and journalist. There seems to be a feeling among some that bloggers are less important than journalist. Others feel journalists are behind the times… Truth be told, the argument comparing bloggers and journalist isn’t even one we should be having. They are extremely different from each other in certain aspects, but extremely similar in others. Each fulfills a different role. In reality, nothing stops a blogger from being a journalist and vice versa – it’s just a matter of semantics.
However, in the spirit of the argument, I think it prudent that we attempt to define and separate bloggers and journalists… In its most simple forms, the definition of a blogger must be someone that writes a blog. But that’s not really enough for us to continue. So how can we extrapolate that? We need to identify what a blog is and make some assumptions and generalities. The interesting part of the definition to keep in mind is the idea that a blog is personal. Also the definition doesn’t say anything about fact or bias. You could say that a blog does not need to be the full truth; instead it could be “reflections” and “comments”.I don’t think it’s fair to define blogs and bloggers from the point of resources and topic .So in the end the only true definition of a blogger is someone that writes a blog. What’s a blog? It’s an online journal that a writer can use to share his ideas and thoughts. Therefore, a blogger is someone that writes his ideas and thoughts online.

Are blogger journalists?

Journalist is a profession with experiences and education. They have to be updated with the surroundings, as it is part of their career to write out to the people professionally. A journal has to be backed up by a research and appropriate facts to support it. A blog, on the other hand can be about anything, whether abstract or concrete.
Bloggers are not necessarily journalists as anyone of any age that have computer skills can become a blogger. There are indeed some bloggers who are journalists, earning money from what they write, especially from ads in their blogs but the amount of bloggers who actually earn enough to be classified as a journalist is scarce.
Many of the bloggers are young teenagers who are still studying. Young teenagers, who are experiencing major changes in their life are accompanied by strong emotions and confusions. These factors encourage them to write out their feelings in a medium and also share what’s happening in their life to their peers. Therefore, a blogger has the freedom to write about anything at all. It could be about a break up or a relationship, or just a simple post that they are tired and wants to sleep. Therefore, bloggers cannot be considered as journalists.
Besides that, many people blog to keep track of what’s happening in their life; sort of like a diary. It could be something significant to them, such as getting married or pregnant, but to the majority, it is insignificant. A journalist explores the content of what they want to write about and usually have plenty of ideas for general viewing. Bloggers, on the other hand only write what they want to and usually, lots of emotions are mixed in the post which makes it irrelevant to the public. Journalists also have to control a lot of factors in their writing pieces as to not offend anyone.
Journalist has certain requirements, like having good language skills and creative ideas. A blogger does not have to meet any pre-conditions to become one and hence they cannot be classified as the same. A blogger can write a post full of broken English and yet no one has the rights to complain. Journalists, do it for a living and a grammatical error can make them a laughing stock and pull down their market value. That said, a journalist is ‘realistic’ and practical.
In conclusion, a blogger cannot be put into the same group as journalists as they are two different things altogether. However, a blogger can choose to be a journalist, given enough effort and proper channel.

are blogger journalists?

I personally do not agree that bloggers are journalists. Journalist is a career and who have received professional education and training, have responsibilities, and have certain skills. Journalists need to be very updated with latest news on what happening around the world and they work towards reporting it. A journalist writes the reports according to the real facts and they do research on it. Besides that, a journalist need to have a good english, therefore they need to go through a training before becoming a journalist.

In the other hand, bloggers are different in another way. Plenty of bloggers, even like me, just use this medium to write what we think and feel. A blogger just writes their opinion. Everyone can be a blogger now by just registering themselves in the websites. There are alot of websites of blogging nowadays, like the one we are using right now, blogspot.com, xanga.com,blogosphere,blogdrive.com and etc.

Bloggers do not need to have good english,in fact, they can write in any languages they feel comfortable with. They even blog with combinations of languages and they can even write it in "rojak" language. Anything,as long as they feel comfortable with it.

this was taken from teycindy.com. A famous blogger from malaysia. She uses the word "chickened" and "lah" in the blog whereas, a journalist need to write it in a formal and proper language.

At the beginning, most of the bloggers use blogs to express their thoughts and feelings. But time goes by, blogger started to share about their interest in their blog, promoting their things, sharing what they got and etc. Bloggers have more freedom than journalists.

This is another famous blogger, cheeserland.com from malaysia too. She blogs about her daily life, about her dogs ( she called herself as mom for their dogs) and she is very good for her make up skills. She does alot of tutorial in make up. She always use the word "Fake One" in her blog.

Moreover, bloggers can post any pictures that they like in their blog unlike a journalist. They can only post pictures that are being approved. Bloggers can post any pictures, for advertisement, trips, idols or etc.

This guy above is the most famous blogger in Malaysia, kennysia.com. Bloggers can post funny picture like what he did in the picture above into their blog.

Without these millions of bloggers, we’d be missing some interesting things. Because we can take these tools to use for ourselves, we have a powerful opportunity to try new things. Because of all this information, we have the ability to learn more, share faster, and discover new opportunities.

Are Bloggers Journalists?

According to Wikipedia, "journalist collects and disseminates information about current events, people, trends, and issues. His or her work is acknowledged as journalism.
Reporters are one type of journalist. They create reports as a profession for broadcast or publication in mass media such as newspapers, television, radio, magazines, documentary film, and the Internet. Reporters find sources for their work, their reports can be either spoken or written, and they are often expected to report in the most objective and unbiased way to serve the public good. A columnist is a journalist who writes pieces that appear regularly in newspapers or magazines." quote from Wikipedia

Bloggers are bloggers, journalists are journalists.

In my opinion, bloggers are "unofficial" and "journalist" are "official". Journalists will post their reports after doing their researches. Most of the bloggers post what they like and what they want. Most of them are not doing researches. Bloggers speaks out their own voice but journalists speaks out the voice of the community. There are some bloggers that really do research before posting but there are only little amount of them.

Furthermore, journalists work under their own code (Code of Ethics). Their rules are strict and I do not think that most of the bloggers can follow the codes. Besides that, people pay for journalist for them to write a journal.  If all the bloggers can work as journalists, there will be no journalist exist in the world because they do not have to pay for bloggers.

Most of the bloggers speak out their own opinion but journalists speak out other people's opinion. That is the difference among most of the bloggers and journalists.

Some of the journalists are risking their life to covering the truth when there is a war at Iraq. The International Women’s Media Foundation awarded its “courage in journalism awards” to those people. This news has been published in the New York Times.

Are Bloggers Journalists?

Are bloggers journalists?
I was wondering, are bloggers consider as an unofficial journalist? Bloggers nowadays could write freely about anything, and almost anything. Thoughts, feelings, diaries, even interesting events and stuff that they wanted to share could be post on to the blog site. However, something which bothers me is about some of the things they blog, for example: a leakage of something private and confidential to other people. People couldn't sue or to take actions against these 'spoilers' as they are not journalist at the side of the law, as bloggers are just, well, bloggers!

WHAT WOULD HAPPEN? What would have happen if such irresponsible yet infantrated your privacy, and they would not received any punishment or summons from any side, and most importantly, THEY ARE LEGALLY ALLOW TO DO SO. We cant do anything about it.

How would you feel? For example, you are planning on giving your girl friend a special surprise party, and some busy body stuck their nose into your business and told the whole world about your plan, how would you feel? You would go crazy, am I right?

I personally feels that law should be enforced against all these bloggers, I agree with those who wanted their privacy to be protected and punished those who cross the line of privacy and confidential. Actions should be taken as if not, this kind of immorality actions would end up encourage more and more of these 'spoilers' to break into other peoples privacy.

Besides that, news spread in light speed within the blog, whether it's true or false. People only post things which brought interest to them, and they don't think about whether it's true or false. Some unwanted events would occur due to these kind of post. Example, I did not said anything bad about the company I'm working in, however, due to some gossip, a colleague of mine post something on the web which emphasize that I was backstabbing my company.

For that, I was blame by my company and I was fired. So far, there is nothing we can do to overcome these kind of problems. Even by the side of the law, we cant do anything to prevent other people to do so. How frustrating! As if they are journalist of your life and post everything about you but you cant do anything to prevent them to do so. For me, they are the evil twin of the journalists. They do give information, but not a healthy one.

These are my opinions, what's yours?

Are Blogger Journalists ????

Are Bloggers considered as Journalists ?
That is a question which are in the mind of many people for years ..........

As a Journalists , they are responsible for get the latest information and distribute the information to the public to make sure that the public is always getting updated information about ours world.

As a blogger , they do not have any responsible like a journalists , most of them are write something which is related to themself , the purpose of them for writing a blog is they wanna to share their experience , feeling or else ......... BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN ALL !!

For What I Think , the blogger and journalists is almost the same , but journalists are on Traditional media which is paper-based , like magazine ,newspaper etc ....... and blogger is on their blog, that why we called them as blogger. But what is the biggest different between them is journalists are getting control under the law , and the blogger are NOT in Malaysia .

Before a person works as a journalist , they needed to be train in everything ..... writing skill , languages skill , grammar and more ......... but a blogger no need to be train ... so that why , the Article wrote by a journalist is always better that a blogger. Just imagine that , if a journalist did not using proper languages ...... it will effect many people ...... including the young generation , they are learning the wrong languages and getting "polluted" .....

A journalists cannot simply write something , cause when they are writing something wrong or else , it might cause a chaos , or other terrible effect . After that , the journalist will be caught under the law , they are controlled by the law .But , a bloggers , he or she can just write anything they wanna to write , they no need to worry about anything because at Malaysia , that still don't have a specific law is related to internet crime or something like this ...... since the blogger are not controlled under the law , they just don need to scare anything , they can just write anything they want to write , although that is illegal for write and it may cause the chaos and terrible effect .........

for example : In this world , everyone got its one privacy , we must respect to other people privacy , that is a “Restricted area” which we cannot step inside , but some blogger they are just don't haven moral value !! Since the blog can help you to earn more money if the click is higher, so those blogger they just wanna to post something which can make his or hers blog become more interesting and attract other people come visit their blog , they just don't care about anything , they spy and post other people privacy......... and post something which might cause a terrible effect ..........

As the conclusion , some of the bloggers , they can considered as journalist ,because they just wanna to share the information and their personal experience , feeling about those information.

but for some of them , they are not considered as a journalist , some more they are do some illegal thing by "legal" , just because that the law problem ! so i strongly recommend that Malaysia government must enforce the law about internet crime ...... but before that Malaysia should enhance the education system which is on information technology to produce more people who are expert in this field ........
for execute this kind of laws .........
