Do you often take what is on the Internet as truth without thinking much about it??

For what i think , nowaday internet in a wide usage and it bring a lot of advantages for us , but it is terrible also ............

Of course nowaday internet is become very important and bring a lot of advantages to us ,but at other hand , it also bring the side effect , which disadvantages to us too ....how it bring the disadvantages to us ?

Let say , we can get almost everything through internet , including national news , global news , everything ? but how about we get a wrong news ? if some one who post some wrong news , for example political news , if will bring the wrong information to public and make the people misunderstand about the specific issues , it even can cause a chaos .... so before we trust on the information which get from internet , we must think properly , it that the news true ??

when i read the news or article on any website , i wont so simply trust on it ....... because everyone can write "news" or "information" on internet, everyone also can do it, so remeber that do not simply trust on the information which on internet . but for some of the website , the information can be trust ,why I said that ? For Example : like the official NBA , Square-enix official website , of course i can trust the information on the website like i wanna to know about the game result ...... or the latest video game information which are developed by Square-enix, the main thing is , which website are you to getting those information ? are those website are official ?

If the website where you get the information are original and official website , that the information and thing you get can be trust , of course , just do not simply trust the information which get from non-official website ....

In Conclusion , I do not often and simply trust on the information from the internet as truth before thinking much ............ Like what i said just now , everyone can write and distributing the new by internet , i am an internet user , of course i knew about it , that why i do not often take those information on the Internet as truth ......... most of them were just write by some busybody for fun only , they never think about it ..... but for those official website , i do trust on the information which they give to me,unless those official website are be hack .....

Believe it?? NO NO NO

My answer is a Big NO. As we know that everyone can post whatever they want to post on the internet- unchecked, unverified, enaccountable, unhindered, and unstoppable. Rumors, gossip, baseless accusations, outright lies, fear-mongering, hate rhetoric, hoaxes, slander/libel, and false information now litter the internet. The very nature of the Internet that makes it so easy to "find" information is also the reason you should be leary of what you take to be the truth on the Internet. So word’s of advise from me to all of you is : BE CAREFEL!!

The one thing I think is unfortunate is those who go online and pretend to be someone or something they aren't. You would think it would be the easiest place to just be yourself but I think those who aren't honest online haven't even accepted themselves for who they are yet. They still try to be what they think they 'should' be or what they think someone 'wants' them to be. It's sad but it's also part of human nature, I guess. But it's a waste of everyone's time because in the end, the truth always finds it's way out.

In the days before the web, when you needed to research a topic, you went to a library and looked through the reference section of the topic you were researching. If you were lucky enough to have a set of encyclopedias, then your task may have been a bit easier. The benifit of this type of research is of course that not only did a person have to go to the trouble to 'write' down the information, but that information also had to pass inspection from editors to publishers. This added secondary resources that tended to weed out a lot of false information. With the Internet, it's not quite so regulated. Anyone with a very modest amount of money, and minimal skills with computer desktop publishing or webmastering is capable of posting an article. The article need not be accurate, in fact, it doesn't even have to be true. Be aware of the site you are reading, and the person or persons responsible for posting that information. Use your common sense, research a topic in more than one place before you state something you saw or read on the web as fact.
When you receive an alarmist chain letter in the mail or see an outrageous article on the cover of a supermarket tabloid, you may easily recognize these as false. Some readers do not automatically question similar information on the Web or in an email forwarded by a friend. The Internet is still relatively new as a widespread method of communication, and many people are not yet savvy about identifying electronic hoaxes.

The Internet contains a wealth of valuable information, but it is often difficult to tell the good from the bad. With easy accessibility, low cost, and wide distribution, the Internet is a great medium for disseminating falsehoods and inaccuracies. While most false information is not malicious, beware of scams intended to frighten or cheat you. Some common email scams are familiar from other media: get rich quick schemes; fad diets; and threatening email chain letters. But new technology begets new scams, from the scare over the nonexistent “Good Times” virus to an email circulated in 1998 that supposedly generated contributions for the American Cancer Society each time it was forwarded—in fact, it collected senders' email addresses so they could be sold for mailing lists.

Internet, Truth or Lie?

Internet is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope that are linked by a broad array of electronic and optical networking technologies. It is a network that can link all of us no matter where we are and who we are.

There are many information from the Internet. Facts, personal opinions, blogs, forums and etc. Although there are many information we can get from the Internet, but I do not think we should believe all of the information. Some information might be rumors because Internet can spread information in a fast rate. Many people might believe on those information/news because many people are spreading that news.

Although there are some cases about fake information on the Internet, but there are still many information that we can trust. Most of the reliable information can be found on famous source such as Wikipedia. Therefore, we have to choose and filter the informations that we are searching for wisely.

I think most of the information from the Internet still reliable. The most important things is that we have to make sure that those information comes from reliable source.

internet

Internet is a way convenient for us compare to other media. Every media has its own pros and cons. I do agree that internet does influence us. People nowadays would just sit down infront of their PC for internet because we can just get everything from internet. We can listen radio from their own websites in internet, reading news in internet, watching drama series in internet and etc rather than watching in tv,listening from radio and watching news from tv which is a way more troublesome.

As we guys know that, there is no one that owns and controls in regulating the internet.Messages are being passed from computer system to computer system in milliseconds, and the network literally resembles a web of computers and connecting telephone lines.

In facts, nowadays teenagers spend their time more on Internet. For instance, i will on my laptop immediately after i reach home or wake up to check on news. But for some of the people will miss use the function of these things. They will try to tell lies and spread rumours to their friends by using that and they will start a discussion. Thus they will start to convey wrong messages and news. Those people that seen might think the same way because being influence by the person's ideas. They will take it as right and he will start to spread to others again. It won't stop until the truth is review. Some of them even being brain wash by the lies and rumours and they think it is the real true fact. This happened because they rely too much on Internet.

For example, my idol who was sent to hospital last year because of his liver problem is being spread to the whole world. Some even got a wrong news that he passed away when one of my friend asked me about it. I was stunned and shock when i heard that news as he was still living healthily now. Any other messages could just spread in internet in a few seconds and most of the people will just trust whatever that they read from.

News in internet can be twisted and published by everyone because we can also choose not to reveal our real identity so that there's no one knows about who is the actual person creating this news. Whereas like newspaper, exact and real news will only be published and it takes time for them to publish. In the other hand, internet already started spreading about the news before newspaper is published out or even the news talk about it because their time for news are already fixed.

Example the death of Michael Jackson, i already heard about the news in internet during the midnight, i don't believe it yet as it can be rumours spreading in internet or something like that. But i only can comfirm about it when i heard the news from radio.

Rumors probably have been around ever since human can speak. It will never stop spreading as long as people still can speak. From one mouth to another, news starts to change. People add sugar and spices to it while spreading.

Therefore we should be more cautious to what we exposed in internet. Be a wise user of internet and be aware of lies, rumours and innuendo that spread from Internet.

There is no 100% trust what's on INTERNET

Internet is really a big help for all of us nowadays, without the internet we can’t hardly know what is happening around the world although we can still watch news through TV or listen news from the radio but we need follow the broadcast time, if we miss that time then we have to wait next coming broadcast time which in not convenient for workers nowadays because they spend most of their time working. With the existence of internet they can simply type “google news” on google and read the news during lunch break.

Most of us think that internet are important and can’t live without internet for a day and only benefits us from time to time. This theory is wrong because sometimes what is posted on internet is not accurate.

Like what I said on the statement above, people prefer get news from the internet because is more convenient and fast, but they never think that are there some created news that just trying to fool people around by adding some hyperbola on these news. People who read it will just accept it without thinking it because they think that what is on the internet news won’t be a joke or be created.

When I read some recommends and advice from internet, I find it hard to trust because you know that created a topic and give the wrong recommend and advice which will end up giving us trouble, eg, you want to know how to bake a cake, if we don’t know how to we usually google it to get answers, but there are a lots of techniques and step, you just can’t follow all of them right? Some of them will tell you to melt the butter first, some will tell you to break the eggs first, what I’m saying is they can simply write and posted as they like.

Internet really help us but sometimes also give us hard time when come to choosing the correct article or information. We can’t 100% trust what’s on internet. if we want to get the accurate information maybe we should just ask the person directly for advice or recommend.

Do you often take what is on the Internet as truth without thinking much about it? If yes, why? If no, why? Discuss this in your own words.

As an Internet user for the past decade, I have always relied on the Internet for informations and any of its kind. In my opinion, it is a strong channel of the media because it can spread news lightning fast. However, in considering whether or not it is reliable is another question.

After all these years of experiences of being an Internet user, I disagree with the idea that Internet is a reliable source of information. First of all, the news can be spread by anyone at all. That is, even a small child who just learned how to use a computer properly can have access to the Internet given the appropriate exposure. Normally a kid of that age would not know much of the outside world, and if such a kid were to post an article in the Internet, nobody would know that it was a kid who posted it, unless he revealed it himself. This is another point that supports the above statement, Internet masks a real person’s identity. Anyone can post anything at all in the Internet, as nobody would know that it is him/her that published such a post.

Besides that, facts from the Internet are mostly not being referenced to an established data. Even if it has citations, the references are from the Internet itself. That being said, a post in the Internet that is being referred to by a person is not necessarily true itself. It is hard to show evidences to support the particular post in the Internet because anonymity is everywhere.

Conclusively, the Internet is a very good channel for information propagation but one should not put too much trust in it. Nowadays, even newspaper might not reveal authentic information due to politics, what more of the internet. One should take it as a reference and guideline, not trusting it as if it is a proven hypothesis.

Disadvantages of Internet

The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) to serve billions of users worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope that are linked by a broad array of electronic and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries a vast array of information resources and services, most notably the inter-linked hypertext documents of the World Wide Web (WWW) and the infrastructure to support electronic mail.

Most traditional communications media, such as telephone and television services, are reshaped or redefined using the technologies of the Internet, giving rise to services such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and IPTV. Newspaper publishing has been reshaped into Web sites, blogging, and web feeds. The Internet has enabled or accelerated the creation of new forms of human interactions through instant messaging, Internet forums, and social networking sites.

As we all know, internet provides us with a lot of information for us from all over the world. For example, we can get the latest news about what is happening around the world and it's updated. So we won't be left out from what is happening around us. Therefore, internet news are more faster than other social media. Besides that, media such as facebook or twitter can also provide us the latest news on what is happening. For example, if we have any latest news to share with everyone, we can post it at our wall so that anyone that is interested can see it.

On the other hand, internet not only has it's advantages, it also has disadvantages that will make other people misunderstand about an issue. For example, like what is happening around us now, as we know we can get the latest news from internet sites but there are a few people who like to vandalize it by creating own story to satisfy the readers. For example, there is a person who creates national news at websites and there people who really believes it. This is because there no protection on websites where it can blocks unknown writers from posting any unwanted news at the websites.

In conclusion, i do not often believe what is on the Internet as truth without thinking much about it because I had experience it for the first time where i receive news from my friends at facebook where they wrote there will be a earthquake happening in an hour time. So i was really into that news until I believe it that it will really happen in that period time. But after that one hour, I don't feel any effects of earthquake so I asked my friends why there are no earthquakes. Therefore they answered, they got the news from an unknown person but not the official news website. So from that time onwards I realize that I was being cheated by an unknown person. So in the coming time, we must not believe what news that is on the internet unless it is checked properly. If not we will be the victim of misunderstanding.

Do you belief?

Would you belief if I tell you, that I've found an article on the internet that somebody found the gateway of stairs to heaven?

Internet proves to be useful in this modern days. Information and knowledge of the whole world is just a click away from your finger tips. HOWEVER, have you ever wonder about whether the information is true or false? Some articles may seem to be true, however like what MMLS had showed in the comic illustration, some internet posts are posted based on one's opinion instead of facts and investigation. As for me, there are only a few sites that could be trusted with their information. For example, wikipedia and information sites are the best example of sites which I find information and do researches for my assignments.

As for blogs or forums, I don't trust these sites quite much, as most of the information are based on their opinion instead facts. Some might seem to be true, however, we can never tell their difference like telling black and white, some had good supporting detail however, it's not 100% true about that very particular topic.

I wouldn't deny the fact of we could also know about some truth we've kept away from through internet. Some bloggers are specifically research and find evidence about these fact facts the goverment or some occation the authority gave us. There some people out there to who plan on screwing up other people's mind and heart, therefore, some of these kind of news shouldn't be trusted to.

In conclusion, on my opinion, information from the net could be trusted, if and only if, the news are from trusted information sites, official websites or trusted report with proof and evidence, I would give my 100% of trust. Sites such as facebook or blogger's I wouldn't gave a 100% belief and trust in it's information.

Do you often take what is on the Internet as truth without thinking much about it?

What is the most comment answer when you ask someone a question?
"Why don't you just google it?"
"Do you know how to use the search engine?"
"Wikipedia is just over there, why not you ask him?"

But now the question is, can the answer on the internet reliable?
For an example, there are more than 10'000words on Wikipedia about Heaven.
No human being had ever been to heaven yet they can write so much about heaven.
Unless God in heaven also surf the internet and he is write that article.

Another example...
My internet nickname which I been using for 9years, Matt2001.
An anonymous can just buy the website www.matt2001.com which is on sale now, then the anonymous can just make it like my official website and write anything about me and share it around.
The anonymous can make the website as if I had change from Matt2001.Blogspot.com to Matt2001.com
But how many of us take it is true or false?
For your information, someone even offer me to buy that website[www.matt2001.com] for $50.

So do you still take what is on the Internet as truth without thinking much about it???

Media Stereotypes

Media Stereotypes , of course we knew that what media mean , but how about stereotypes ??? When the first time i see this words , i was blur about it .... but for now i understand what is it mean ....

What is Stereotype ?

A stereotype is a commonly held public belief about specific social groups, or types of individuals. (From Wikipedia)

let say , if i say "carbonated drink company" , what will you think ?? Coca-Cola right ? or another example , middle east and Muslims ......... what will you think ?? terrorist ? of course that most of the people will think about terrorist ...... that is what we called stereotypes .

For Media Stereotypes ...... that is a lot of media stereotypes , for example the case 911 ,
after that case is pass long time .......... but until now when i see the middle east people , specially who wear like "cover whole body and face" , which is their tradition wear , i still will feel scare they are having a boom , i knew that was stupid !!! but i just cannot stop it ........ Just because the people who plan to do the 911 is from Arabs , it make a stereotype inside ours mind deeply .......... that is totally unfair for them .......

That still have another example which is base on my own experience , i think most of the Teenager know about "Counter strike" and "Call Of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare" right ? These are 2 popular First-person Shooting games ........ in these games ......... both of them describe the middle east country and the people as the terrorist ....... that is another stereotype also , like ours parents or older
Relative is very verbiage and tell a lot ...... that is another example , actually they are just caring about us and share their own experience with us , to make sure that we are always on a right path ....

Media Stereotypes!!!!!!!!!!!

Media stereotypes are inevitable, especially in the advertising, entertainment and news industries, which need as wide an audience as possible to quickly understand information. Stereotypes act like codes that give audiences a quick, common understanding of a person or group of people—usually relating to their class, ethnicity or race, gender, sexual orientation, social role or occupation. But stereotypes can be problematic. They can:reduce a wide range of differences in people to simplistic categorizations, transform assumptions about particular groups of people into "realities", be used to justify the position of those in power, perpetuate social prejudice and inequality. More often than not, the groups being stereotyped have little to say about how they are represented.
This section comments on common media stereotypes and examines some of the root causes of stereotypical portrayals, including lack of diversity behind the scenes in newsrooms and film studios. The section explores the impact of stereotyping on self-image and the development of attitudes among the young, and it showcases efforts to counter stereotyping with alternative programming. It also outlines diversity guidelines for the broadcasting industry, as well as government policies to promote fair and equitable portrayals in Canadian media. For further information and research, each of the sub-topic sections below also offers a continually updated selection of pertinent articles, reports, surveys, statistics, and Web sites.
If we assume that the media perpetuates stereotypes, what can be done to combat them, or has our society become numb to these stereotypes? Mass media became on of the main sources of popular culture in modern capitalist society. Media, however, not only entertains and offers news to people, but also transfers the stereotypes, beliefs and values of the society to reproduce the existing order of social life. Louis Althusser in his theory of ideological state apparatuses, says that schools, families, religions play the role of the ideological state apparatuses. These institutions invisibly transfer and indoctrinate the dominant hegemonic ideology of the society into the minds of people in order to be able to control people. In the modern capitalist world, I would argue, media turned to be yet another althusserian ideological apparatus that control the mind of masses. It seems like media creates the unique pieces of art: movies, documentaries, magazines, music, TV shows and others. Theodor Adorno, however, would argue that all of these products of media contain zero level of uniqueness. According to him, what we see on TV screens or in newspapers is produced only with one purpose of being sold. Therefore, what is manufactured (popular culture) by media has to reflect the life of people, it needs to be on such level that people would understand and except. This reflection, however, is created through reproduction of stereotypes, which fill the life of society and, thus, are known to everyone.

stereotype

A stereotype is used to catergorize a group of people. People don't understand that type of person, so they put them into classifications, thinking that everyone who is that needs to be like that, or anyone who acts like their classifications is one. ( taken from here )

Based on my opinions, they reflect ideas that groups of people hold about others who are different from them.

For instance, i said i want to drink soft drinks and in everyone's mind soft drinks are coke whereas there are still alot of other soft drinks like pepsi,7up,sprite and etc.

As the example above, " i am asian, so i must like maths" that is just a conclusion made by people and everyone will be brain washed by that conclusion.

Another example is like when i see a person who smokes, the first impression towards me are the person is bad,the person is violent and alot of negative thoughts just appear in my mind just like brain storming. But,i have learnt from here that people who smokes not all are bad just like when we see a handsome looking guy and we just make a conclusion saying that he's a playboy. It is too early to judge a person like that.

Last time before i wore my contact lense, i was wearing a nerd looking glasses when i was still young,my mom doesn't allowed me to wear contact lense yet as i do not know how to take care of it. I was called as a nerd and geek just because of wearing glasses.

When i did something wrong, my mom scolded me and i will be complaining to my friends about it. They usually say "mothers are like that!they love nagging" but actually deep in my heart i know that my mom cares about me that is why she scolded me.

Stereotypes can influenced people easily especially teenagers like us when we still do not have a well rounded look of life yet. We believe people easily. There are alot of stereotypes out there, some may be bad and some may be good which will lead us to a brighter side. Therefore, we need to think twice before taking a step to avoid any mistakes. We should not be influenced by media easily.

Stereotype

Stereotype, a very new word yet a stranger to me however, it's a thing that's happening around you and you are in it but you don't know. What is stereotype anyway?

Stereotype is standardized and simplified conceptions of groups, based on some prior assumptions. Generally speaking, these "stereotypes" are not based on objective truth, but rather subjective and often unverifiable content-matter. Mostly of the stereotypes are not based on true facts and proof, some are just, well, opinions of someone.

The picture is a good example of stereotypes. Stereotypes give us a way of though, made us think in a way where they put two pictures together, and ask you, 'What do you think?'. There are alot of stereotype around the world nowadays. When we ask about military force, who came in mind? America! When we ask about terrorist? Arabs! When we ask about anime? Japan!

One of the perspective is that of automatic and implicit or subconscious and conscious. Automatic or subconscious stereotyping is that which everyone does without noticing. Automatic stereotyping is quickly preceded by an implicit or conscious check which permits time for any needed corrections. Automatic stereotyping is affected by implicit stereotyping because frequent conscious thoughts will quickly develop into subconscious stereotypes. (Wikipedia)

Another method to categorizing stereotypes is general types and sub-types. Stereotypes consist of hierarchical systems consisting of broad and specific groups being the general types and sub-types respectively. A general type could be defined as a broad stereotype typically known among many people and usually widely accepted, whereas the sub-group would be one of the several groups making up the general group. These would be more specific, and opinions of these groups would vary according to differing perspectives. (Wikipedia)

For me, stereotypes are a one of the main element which we need to aim for during a publicity for a new product. A good example of a successful publicity which hit the mark of stereotype is Coke and Pepsi.

In conclusion, I would like to emphasize that not all stereotypes had bad influences. If we used it in a proper way, it benefits us more.

Stereotype

First of all, after seeing these two Arab guys walking together you will definitely think something like “are they going to commit another terrorism act”, ”where are they going to bomb this time” etc that surely related to terrorism, you won’t think other things except terrorism act, this is what we call stereotype.

I want to know who created this “stereotype” and why or how? Hate to admit it but I’m also one of these stereotypes. Why people likes judge people by his/hers looks, well this is very unfair to the other people, take me for an example, I have curly hair and my skin tone is brown, when people met me they thought I’m a Malay well actually I’m a Chinese, and just because I watch anime(Japanese cartoon) and manga(Japanese comic) doesn’t mean that I’m a otaku(Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interests, particularly anime, manga, and video games). Stereotypes can have a negative and positive impact on individuals, but most of the people talk about negative side of people. Many people know this idiom "don't judge a book by its cover" but still ignore it which is very sad and cruel and unfair to those judged by their appearance.

People should make a different between terrorist and Indian, eg, they are from different part of the world, they don’t eat the same food, they don’t even hate the same people, terrorist hate Americans; Indian hate each other, terrorist will blow up an airport; Indian like to work at the airport, so people shouldn’t mix terrorist and the Indian as well as other Muslims country.

Well, since we can’t change stereotypes, we can still safe ourselves by changing our appearance, eg, some Americans will see a Muslims as a terrorist right? What a Muslim can do is change their attire, wear western formal cloths with a tie, with that appearance, we can use their weakness which is “stereotyping” and turn it become our benefit, they will definitely think that Muslim with western formal is someone who work from the government or some important people.

We shouldn’t judge people by his/hers appearance, it is a major problem and people find it offensive through they knowing that they can’t do anything about it. If we doubt the person is it same as what you think in your mind, why don’t take another step and ask to get the truth better than guessing it.

Are bloggers journalists?

To me, I don't really agree that blogger are journalist, some way and somehow they look like a journalist but actually still far from becoming a journalist. Anyone can become a blogger but becoming a journalist must be undergo some training before can really become one of them.

Some people look blogger just as same journalist because they both post something but blogger can simply post any topic or event already happened , while journalist have to go through some process or step as they learn to become a journalist. As you can see the different quality and the way of present it from blogger and journalist is different, eg, blogger usually update their blogs straight away once they are in front of their PC, while journalist will do researches before post any topic.

A journalist will write and post something that will let other readers to think or understand some theories or facts, while blogger write and post something that only related to themselves and usually are jokes or nonsense but this doesn’t means that I don’t respect blogger because come blogger start by blogging before becoming a journalist like pre-training. A journalist can’t simply write or post something because their post or article will affect themselves as a journalist and most probably will get arrest by police ; on the other side blogger can simply post any joke that related to the government or religion, after the discussion blogger can simply delete the post and act as NOTHING happened. What I’m trying to say is journalist hold great responsibility than blogger.

One thing that shows a huge gab between blogger and journalist is some blogger often post something as a 'spoilers' or 'anonymous' and disturb on stick their xxx into other people's business, and then invade other peoples privacy. The government should take action by blocking those 'spoilers' and 'anonymous' IP address from surfing the internet for few days as a warning, or allow the other people to send reports about abusing the blog.

As a conclusion, I still can’t agree that journalist and blogger are the same though they have the similar ways like they like to share what they know about .In the end, both journalist and blogger will earn their respect on other different ways.

Stereotype

A stereotype is used to categorize a group of people. People don't understand that type of person, so they put them into classifications, thinking that everyone who is that needs to be like that, or anyone who acts like their classifications is one.
-From www.urbandictionary.com

This guy is holding a Big camera, he must be a a Rich Photographer!

This guy own a Mac Book Pro, he must be a rich designer.

This guy is driving a Kancil, he must be a poor guy.

This guy own a Nokia 3310, a old model phone, he must be a poor guy that can't even afford a better phone.
The above are all example of a Stereotype...

Human always take things for granted for what they see.
They looked at something, the first thing went to their mind and they assume that is it.

So what happen if the above example were put together?
A guy that owns a Big camera and Mac Book Pro but he driving a kancil with his Nokia 3310 inside his phone pouch...
So now what is your mind thinking???

stereotype

By definition, stereotyping is close to being biased in giving an opinion, or perceiving matters in a generalized manner. It is very common in the world nowadays as there is racism everywhere, regardless of the country’s status.

Firstly, as an example to illustrate the whole idea, when a person is asked to think what’s in his/her mind when he/she is given a picture of a terrorist, that person would almost and unconsciously think of the Arabians. In truth, not all Arabs are terrorists, only a very small amount of people are but yet the media made it look like the whole country is full of evil people and schemes. This is how powerful a media can propagate stereotyping in its spread.

Next, the media always emphasizes on well-developed countries, namely US, Japan and many more. There’s no denying the fact that these first world countries have contributed a lot globally, but it seems that the media focuses so much on their positives that other countries are not perceived to be as ‘good’ as them. For example, China made goods are always looked down upon by many because their quality is not as good as the developed nations.

Stereotypes are also common in the society level. From the messages that the media propagate everyday, people who do drugs are being stereotyped as the worst people ever. In truth, many of them are just normal people like us that got hit by a big dilemma suddenly. Unable to handle the pressure, they resorted to these drugs and got addicted. Some of them did not take drugs because they are bad, just that the overwhelming stress made them fall. However, that’s not what that would come in our mind first most of the time.

In conclusion, stereotyping is defined by the media, and somehow it blended in well to the society. Though we do not realize, we practice it everyday, whether unconsciously or not. We must know how to handle our thoughts well and try to understand the reasons to why an action is done, or we will fall prey to the media’s actions.

Stereotypes in the Media

Stereotype are commonly seen in media presentation. It usually labels one group or community to a specific characteristic. Most of the stereotype are negative. In other word, criticize the whole group or community. Therefore, the whole world will label that community because of the stereotype media.

Stereotype media can label a community to a positive (eg. tall men are good in basketball) or negative (eg. female drivers are bad drivers) characteristic. It creates an identity to a community. Stereotypes ignore the uniqueness of individuals by painting all members of a group with the same brush.
"In literature and art, stereotypes are clichéd or predictable characters or situations. Throughout history, storytellers have drawn from stereotypical characters and situations, in order to connect the audience with new tales immediately." quote from Wikipedia
In order to connect with the audience, most of the storytellers characterize the character according to the history or the implant of characteristic about the certain community. Therefore, the judgement about the community will be deeper and deeper.

In the disaster drama film World Trade Center (2006), it is about the terrorism attacks at September 11, 2001 in New York City, in which two planes crashed into the buildings of the World Trade Center. This movie is directed by Oliver Stone. This movie has label Afghanistan as a "communist" country.

After the terrorist attack in New York City, all of people Afghanistan is labeled as a terrorist. This is because of the media that to "people of Afghanistan" instead of the specific person who had done the terrorism.

This proves that the stereotype in media presentation has a high influence on us.

At last, I must enforce that not all stereotype are true. Therefore, do not take the judgement too early because of media about criticism on certain community.

Social Media

First of all media is an instrument on communication, like a newspaper or a radio, so social media would be a social instrument of communication. All this social media can be simple as just leaving a comment or be as complex YOUTUBE after watch certain movie leave comment, rate the particular movie or even subscribe.

YOUTUBE was created in February 2005, ever since that, I spend almost everyday trying to find funny, creative, music video on YOUTUBE. People from different parts of the world spend time on YOUTUBE watching video clips or movie just to know more about the other side of the world without actually being there. YOUTUBE is not just a website that allows people watch movies or video clips, they also act as "TV" because some of the YOUTUBE users upload daily news on YOUTUBE.

YOUTUBE also help a lots of people, why I said that because many people try to make advertisements, drawing or idea to create something, they make and uploaded their video clips or process on YOUTUBE and get commented by unknown people and know where to change to make it one step closer to perfect.

Some other kind people uploaded short video clips teach people stuff that they don't really good at and it's hard to really find someone who really know it on reality, eg, the day before math mid term exam, I hardly understand any of the questions that's going to be ask on the other day but thanks to YOUTUBE, I was able to understand and how to solve those questions, I believe that some of friends did it this way because is quick and simple for such short time to revise so many things in just couples of hours.

Well actually we can also find some entertainment through YOUTUBE. There are some people who upload some funny video clips or short movie to keep us entertain even just with some jokes or funny actions, with YOUTUBE workers works in the office won’t get tired or bored with the work and able to relax a bit, this kind of situation can gradually increase the efficiency of the workers compare to those who work all day without relax.
